Some more for you, LIJI.
Transcript (Part 2)Rikus: “Will Clickteam’s staff of programmers grow in the near future?”
Jeff: Yes, um. Chris Branch joined us after the last Click Convention last September.
Rikus: Uhum.
Jeff: And unfortunately, he got a little bit sick so he hasn’t been able to work as much as he wanted to.
Rikus: Mmm.
Jeff: He’s basically on staff and then we’re working with a guy named Ross [Pickett] down in Australia, and he’s been kind of a mad man going through doing the conversions over to Java with Francois.
Rikus: Okay.
Jeff: So yeah, both of these guys – Clickteam definitely wants them to be full-time, salaried, wage-earning programmers for Clickteam.
Rikus: Okay. Well this ties nicely into the third question by Dr. James. Um, he’s asking “Where do you think your flagship products are going? Pushing into Multimedia Fusion 3D or moving more into Java and the portable side of things?”.
Jeff: Well, that’s an interesting question.
Rikus: Eh heh.
Jeff: Um, I kind of see it going both.
Rikus: Both ways.
Jeff: Er, Clickteam knows that we need to have a runtimes on more platforms. And I think Java has kinda proven itself to be something we’ve really need to consider. ‘Cos you know Java applications it run under Windows, can run under Mac, under Linux and who knows what else it can run on. Any new Operating System happens top pop up probably will already support Java.
Rikus: Oh, okay.
Jeff: Then we have Java Mobile, which I know a lot of people are looking forward to.
Rikus: Mmmhmm.
Jeff: And I think that’s about half your question there. I know that Francois on the authoring side has considered making a Java version of the authoring side. Um, no real timeline or progress report on that but it was something that he was thinking about
Rikus: Okay, well that’s exciting.
Jeff: Francois got into using Java with his BluRay work and uh he was impressed by how good the libraries and the foundation of it was.
Rikus: Mmm, well that’s good and it’s good that he’s getting some more experience with that. Alright Jeff, we’re moving onto question number four - a bit of a lighter question from AndyUK. He’s asking, “do you have any personal favourite Click games?”
Jeff: Personal favourite Click games? Uh, there’s so many good ones it’s hard to put your finger to. I really liked the Physics Draw – I know that’s not really a game.
Rikus: Uhum.
Jeff: One of the classic games I like. Actually I enjoyed most of them. Unless I can put my finger on just one that’s. I’m really a casual gamer, so any kind of platform or puzzle game I just dig.
Rikus: Well, that’s good to now. For all you listeners out there. And we’re moving onto the last question, from Shab. He’s asking the following: “Jeff. When the BluRay support is added, will it be possible to use the MMF2 family of products to create custom menus for BluRay video. This one is more of a stupid question, but I assume that there will be no way to store values once the system has been turned off (referring to BluRay)”.
Jeff: Yeah. Uh, I guess there’s no way to store any values. Um, BluRay. When it first gets done it’s gonna be part of a Sonic product. And this product is aimed kind of at very high level commercial studios.
[Note from Francois after: You are able to save fils to the internal Flash ram of the player. So you'll be able to save progress...]
Rikus: Uhum.
Jeff: I think that the product itself is around forty/fifty thousand dollars
Rikus: Yikes.
Jeff: So there won’t be anybody in Clickteam that has one unless Sonic gives us one for free.
Rikus: Uhumm.
Jeff: Uh, Sonic was thinking and considering a consumer-level BluRay creation tool.
Rikus: Oh, that’s new news.
Jeff: And if they do that then the average person should be able to afford it.
Rikus: Yeah.
Jeff: The regular MMF that everybody has right now itself won’t export BluRay.
Rikus: Uhum.
Jeff: It’s kind of a, it’s a separate programme that’s almost identical to Multimedia Fusion if that makes any sense.
Rikus: Okay, it makes sense.
Jeff: But at least perhaps some of the guys out there, they would be experienced enough with Multimedia Fusion to feel comfortable going to a company and saying “I can make you a BluRay creation. I just need this tool”.
Rikus: Uhuhm. Okay, so in the end it’s up to the user when the tools become available.
Jeff: Yeah.
Rikus: Alright Jeff, well that’s all the questions we have here. Anything else you would like to share or anything else that’s on your mind?
Jeff: No, not really. Um, working hard doing the shows. Getting an increasing of schools, universities, colleges teaching. Well, we’re doing better than ever.
Rikus: Oh, that’s good.
Jeff: And we’ve probably, oh, maybe doubled what we were last year.
Rikus: Oh wow.
Jeff: So things are going up and exposure has gone way up. When we do the shows now we run into a lot of people either use the product or have heard of the product. And we get a lot of others coming to us down at the shows talking to us wondering why everybody’s mentioning the ClickTeam and all these cool products we have.
Rikus: Oh that’s good. That’s good. Let’s hope this trend will keep on going there for the next couple of years. Alright, Jeff. I think we’re all through here. Thank you again for the great interview, and I’m sure there will be many more to follow.
Jeff: Well that’s fine. Any time you want to call, just ring up my number.
Rikus: Alright, sounds good. Alright thanks Jeff, see you later.
Jeff: Bye.
Rikus: Bye.
